ABOUT
PROPOSAL 1

At a moment in time when we are seeing state governments and courts ban abortion and roll back our rights, this amendment embeds explicit protections within our state constitution to protect our fundamental rights and reproductive freedoms.

Right now, New York’s State Constitution includes protections for race and religion, but leaves many New Yorkers unprotected. This amendment — Prop 1 — would close those loopholes by prohibiting government discrimination based on a person’s ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex—including LGBT, pregnancy, and abortion rights. It will ensure no one can be discriminated against for who they are.

Ultimately, Proposal 1 will ensure New Yorkers keep and protect what they want most: fundamental reproductive rights, without political interference.

ABOUT US

New Yorkers for Equal Rights is a coalition of civil and reproductive rights organizations advocating for passage of Proposal One – the New York Equal Rights Amendment.
